Laurelhill holds first Freshers’ Fair

LAURELHILL Community College’s Parents Teachers and Friends Association has held its first ever Year 8 Freshers’ Fair.

The Fair enabled new Year 8 pupils and their parents to familiarise themselves with the College in an informal and fun-filled setting.

The Principal, Mr James Martin welcomed pupils and their parents to the event and explained the College’s holistic and child-centred ethos, stressing the long-standing history of positive communication and “home-school links” between school and parents.

Eager “newbie” pupils enjoyed playing fun-packed team-building games and made new friends whilst completing a tricky treasure hunt. All of these activities were specifically designed to allow pupils to get to know each other before they start the College in September.

Parents and pupils were able to find out more about the College by talking to staff, visiting the exhibition area in the library as well as visiting the McCalls’ stall to enquire about the College uniform.

Members of the PTFA worked hard to provide pupils and their parents with a BBQ, despite the inclement weather. The evening was closed by Mrs Beckett, PTFA Chair, who awarded prizes to the intrepid treasure hunt winners.
