Lisburn Councillor nominated for local government award

2010 is the third year of the Local Government Awards Northern Ireland. With 22 councils submitting entries across seven categories and a total of 68 entries received, the organisers say the number and quality of submissions has enthused all concerned.

They say the high level of quality services and initiatives, as well as individual councillors and officers commitment was recognised as amongst the best, after securing a place in the finalists’ category of this year’s prestigious Local Government Awards Northern Ireland.

The Local Government Awards Northern Ireland showcase the best examples of service provision, new initiatives and personal commitment from councillors and officers. The Awards show public recognition while awarding excellence in front line local government public services.

Mrs Palmer of the DUP was nominated for an award in the ‘Best Initiative by a Councillor’ category by the Vice Chairman of the council’s Economic Development Committee UUP Alderman Jim Dillon.

“Councillor Palmer has worked tirelessly during her Chairmanship,” said Mr Dillon. “She is a very worthy nominee and as Vice-Chairman I am delighted to have nominated her for this Award.”

He said as Chairman of the Economic Development Committee, Mrs Palmer has shown leadership and commitment to delivering a targeted and innovative programme of Economic Development across four distinct services; Business Competitiveness, Tourism Development, City Regeneration and Rural Development and the Council would like to congratulate Councillor Palmer on being selected as a 2011 finalist and wish her every success when the overall winners are announced in February.”
