Logan takes seat held by McIlveen

His prediction proved wrong as ‘sitting MLA’ David McIlveen lost out at the polls to ‘new face’ Philip Logan, who hails from the village of Ahoghill.

Throughout the course of the count there were murmurings about ‘bad feeling’ in the DUP camp and David McIlveen himself was nowhere to be seen at the Seven Towers Leisure Centre throughout the process.

And while all three DUP candidates expressed their sympathy for Mr. McIlveen there was little which could be said to gloss over his very significant absence from the final stage of the electoral process.

Sources claimed that there had been a dispute over canvassing practices in the final days of the election but Paul Frew simply stated that it was ‘muted celebration’ for his party.

However, both he and Mervyn Storey were swift to congratulate Mr. Logan on his performance.

Speaking from the platform, Mr. Logan paid an emotional tribute to the support he had received from his wife and family and vowed to ‘keep up the hard work for which the DUP is famous in North Antrim.’
