Loughgiel man fined £100

A MAN has been fined for using a vehicle which was overloaded by almost 50% more than the legal limit.

Nicholas McMullan of Lough Road, Loughgiel pleaded guilty to a charge of using a vehicle “whereby the purpose for which it was used was such that use of the vehicle involved a danger of injury to any person”.

The case was up before North Antrim Magistrates Court on Friday.

McMullan was detected on 24 November 2009.

A prosecutor said the vehicle was 48.5% heavier than the legal limit for its class when stopped.

She said this would have affected the brakes, suspension, chassis, tyres and steering.

A defence solicitor said their client had a clear record previously.

McMullan was fined 100, court costs of 19 and had his licence endorsed with three penalty points.
