Loughry Rivers Agency move ‘good news for Cookstown’

JOHN McNamee, Sinn Fein’s Vice Chair of Cookstown District Council, has welcomed the news from Agriculture Minister that the headquarters of the Rivers Agency will be moving to the Loughry College site at Cookstown.

Michelle O’Neill MLA made the announcement at the Balmoral Show this morning.

Speaking afterwards, Councillor Mc Namee said, “This announcement by Minister O’Neill is good news for Cookstown and for the Loughry site.

“Minister O’Neill has once again demonstrated a commitment to decentralise public sector jobs.

“For too long Cookstown has witnessed government departments taking jobs out of the local area but this will start to reverse that trend.

“The Rivers Agency plays an important role within the rural community and deals with issues that affect the entire countryside, important for farmers, for home owners, developers and local businesses.

“We look forward to continuing our work in partnership with the Department of Agriculture and commend Minister O’Neill on the positive actions she has taken to decentralise jobs.”
