Magherafelt Council recognises business excellence

MAGHERAFELT District Council hosted a gala dinner for businesses who have contributed to business excellence and economic development in the district.

Thirty three businesses attended the event in the Elk Toomebridge from various sectors including construction, manufacturing, retail, services and hospitality.

Councillor Paul McLean Council Chairperson speaking at the event said: “In the current economic climate Council felt it was important to recognise the efforts of businesses and celebrate the excellence that exists in the Magherafelt district which is why we organised this event.

“All the businesses who attended had recently won awards of either regional or national significance or were significant employers in the district.”

John McLaughlin Council Chief Executive commented:

“Magherafelt has a lot to be proud of we have the highest recycling rate in Northern Ireland, we will soon be opening the first 50m pool in Northern Ireland, Meadowbank Sports Arena is the largest indoor arena of its kind in Europe and are the only council in Northern Ireland to have no debt.”

Council has attracted significant funding into the district through the Sustainable Competitiveness Programme and recently delivered the Business Clusters Programme and the Be International Programme.

Anne-Marie Campbell Director of Policy & Development with the Council, said: “Council supports businesses in the district through the delivery of a number of economic development programmes and it is clear from the businesses that participate on these programmes there is a real entrepreneurial spirit within Magherafelt and we wanted to recognise this.”

Council are planning a number of exciting programmes to be delivered over the next number of years including the North West Construction Cluster Programme, Renewable Energy Network Programme, South West Export Development Programme and Enterprising Magherafelt Programme.
