A man who stood in the middle of the road exposing his genitals and bottom to traffic , had consumed 20 ‘ shots’ of sambuca, Magherafelt Magistrates Court was told.

Father-of-three Steven Walsh (30), Tulach Way, Magherafelt, was fined £140 for indecent behaviour at Union Road/Garden Street in the town in the early hours of February 22.

A prosecuting lawyer said defendant had stopped traffic while exposing himself before stepping back on to the footpath to join friends and compose himself.

She said the incident had been captured on CCTV.

Admitting the offence Stephen Atherton, solicitor, said defendant was highly embarassed by the incident.

Mr Atherton said it was fashionable for young people to drink shots rendering them senseless.

He stressed that the majority of the crowd had left that area of the town when it happened around 2am, and no statements of complaint had been received.

District Judge Alan White remarked that the Walsh was not setting a good example to his children.
