A MAGHERAFELT man accused of harassing two women, including his ex-partner, was refused bail at the local Magistrates Court today.

Brian Coulter (54), of Princess Terrace in the town, also faces four charges of breaching a restraining order in respect of the alleged injured parties on dates last month.

A police officer said Coulter had sent both women letters and had approached them in Meadowlane shopping centre, Magherafelt, causing them to be fearful and distressed.

Applying for bail, a defence barrister said the defendant denied the charges.

He said Coulter had an “unenviable record” but nothing in relation to breaching bail.

District Judge Alan White said Coulter has a substantial record, including convictions for making threats to kill.

He told Coulter he was remanding him in custody to appear in Magherafelt Court by videolink on December 18 but that he apply for High Court bail.
