Magherafelt man shouted ‘Up the Ra’ at police

A YOUNG Magherafelt man who shouted ‘Up the RA’ and ‘Tiocfaidh ar la’ with a clenched fist at police and members of the public, was given a four-month suspended jail sentence at the local Magistrates Court.

Caolan Pol McGuckin (22), of Rugby Court, admitted disorderly behaviour at Garden Street, Magherafelt on October 27 last year.

A PPS lawyer said the incident happened around 1.30am after the defendant had been ejected from licensed premises.

McGuckin also admitted a similar offence on October 20 last year when he shouted and behaved agressively towards police officers in a separate incident at Queen Street, Magherafelt.

A defence barrister explained that the case had been adjourned for a year to monitor McGuckin’s behaviour and he has managed to stay out of trouble.

District Judge Alan White said he would treat him leniently given that he has kept out of trouble over the past year.
