Shoppers were evacuated from Magherafelt’s Meadowlane Shopping Centre just before noon today (Monday, September 5) after a fire alarm was triggered.

Eyewitness reports suggest the alarm in Dunnes went off and police said Fire Service were at the scene.

They said they understood that smoke was coming from a generator on the premises, but a spokesperson for the Fire Service said it was a “false alarm”.

When the Mail called Meadowlane, we were told the shopping centre was evacuated for a period of around 20mins, but that business has now returned to normal.
