Darius Porcikas, 24, was convicted of 12 offences, including rape, attempted rape, sexual assault and inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. He was acquitted of one count of sexual assault.

The 29-year-old Lithuanian victim was repeatedly raped and beaten over a 12-hour period on July 13, 2011.

Her former boyfriend was beaten unconscious and repeatedly assaulted during the incident at a house in Dingwell Park, Lurgan.

Porcikas, with an address at Upper Edward Street, Newry, will be sentenced after probation and psychiatric reports have been compiled.

However, the judge at Craigavon Crown Court last week said that given the nature and circumstances of the offences, the reports would be addressing the issue of the danger posed by the rapist.

If assessed as posing a significant risk to the public, Porcikas would face enhanced sentencing powers ranging from an extended licence period up to an indeterminate or life sentence.

Alongside him in the dock was 23-year-old Vytautas Mikulinas who was convicted on a charge of causing actual bodily harm to the woman’s ex-partner. He walked free from court with a one year conditional discharge.
