Market returns to the town centre

Situated on the plaza the new look market will play host to 15 stalls with both new and existing traders eager to sell their wares.

A dozen stalls will be situated under the brand new black and white striped marquees and three outside on the plaza.

A wide variety of goods including fresh eggs, fish, flowers, patisseries, fragrances, rugs and collectables, ladies accessories, clothes, handbags, crafts and vintage, fancy goods, artisan chocolate and electronic cigarettes will be available to those attending the market.

Planning for the market has been ongoing by Craigavon Borough Council since the summer and it has been eagerly anticipated in the town. It will run every Thursday from 9am to 2pm making a welcome comeback to the town.

“We are delighted that we are bringing Lurgan back to its historical roots as a market town and we know that people are excited for its return,” commented Alderman Arnold Hatch, Chair of the Environmental Services Committee.

“The plaza will be a hive of activity on the launch day and with such a wide range of stalls on offer there is no doubt that there will be something for everyone. We would encourage local people to come out and support the new market on a weekly basis and enjoy a new beginning for Lurgan town centre.”

Due to an incomplete delivery of equipment for the marquees, the market’s initial start date of October 3 had to be postponed.

Last Thursday the market was given a ‘dry run’ and stall holders met in Lurgan Town Hall where they were given the lowdown on the new market set up by Craigavon Council’s Kirsty Pinkerton.
