AN ACCLAIMED poet from Moneymore has picked up a top prize in a local writing competition.
Maura Johnston, who is also a member of Burnavon Writers won third place in the annual Open Door Poetry Group, Omagh comeptition with poem ‘Separation’.
To mark the success, Maura and other members of the Burnavon writing group attended an open mic and prize giving event hosted by their friends in Open Door Poetry Group. Guest speaker for the evening was accomplished poet Moyra Donaldson, who presented the prizes.
Burnavon Writers had taken time out of their usual routine to attend the special event, and next week will resume workshop sessions in creative writing led by Open University tutor Heather Richardson.
The group is also laying plans for fantastic open mic night of their own in September. They are looking forward very much to the company of friends from Monaghan, Omagh and Craigavon, as well as extending an open invitation to the public for an evening of readings and music.
