A Mid Ulster MLA has commended Cookstown’s Stuart Dallas who fielded for Northern Ireland against Scotland and Finland at the weekend.
Congratulating the star football player on adding two international caps to his already impressive career, the DUP’s Ian McCrea said he hoped the player would win many more.
He said: “I was delighted to see local lad Stuart Dallas involved once again in the senior Northern Ireland team.
“Stuart, who received his first cap in 2011, was again called up to face Scotland where he played the full 90 minutes.
“He is a great talent and it came as no surprise given his run of starts and goals at Brentford, that Michael O’Neill would again utilise Stuart’s talents on the international stage.”
The Mid Ulster politician, who is to contest the Westminster seat in the upcoming elections, said he has known the young player for most of his life and has always kept a close eye on his progress.
I am proud of Stuart and I know that the people of Mid Ulster are proud to know that a young lad from the local area has broken through into the Northern Ireland team - Ian McCrea
“I know that his family and friends are very proud of his achievements,” he added.
“I am proud of Stuart and I know that the people of Cookstown and across Mid Ulster are proud to know that a young lad from the local area has broken through into the Northern Ireland team and we all look forward to seeing Stuart receive many more caps for his country.”
