Messages of support and prayers have flooded in for the Magherafelt cyclist injured in a crash on Wednesday evening.

Francis Stewart 44, from Magherafelt remains in a serious condition in hospital after the accident on the Cookstown and Moneymore road.

Mr Stewart is a highly respected coach with the Magherafelt Harriers athletics club.

Other athletics clubs from across the country have offered their best wishes and prayers.

Ballinascreen GAC, where Francis is originally from, have called on club members to pray for his recovery.

At around 6.35pm police received a report that a cyclist had been struck by a car.

He was first taken to Antrim Area Hospital but was moved to the Royal Victoria Hospital.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the collision. The number to call is 101.
