MP raises planning application issue

East Londonderry MP Gregory Campbell has asked the Minster responsible for Planning to respond to Coleraine Borough Council’s referral of planning application at Strandview Avenue/Drive in Portstewart.

Mr Campbell said “ A meeting took place on Friday, February 7 involving the Minister of the Environment Mark H Durkan MLA at the site of the planning application on land to the rear of Strandview Avenue, Portstewart.

“This followed my request on behalf of residents of Strandview Drive for the Minister responsible for Planning Mr Durkan to meet with them on site.

“ I think it was important that only by seeing this site and the surrounding area could the Minister fully understand and appreciate the concerns of residents on the proposals contained in the application. “

Prior to his site visit, in a reply to a written question in the Assembly, Mr Durkan replied: “I will respond to Coleraine Borough Council’s referral of planning application for a housing development at lands adjacent to Strandview Avenue and Strandview Drive, Portstewart after we have met on site as agreed and when I have had the opportunity to consider the relevant issues.”

Mr Campbell hoped the Minister would give careful consideration to the genuine objections and concerns presented to him by the residents.
