Obituary: Mrs. Pamela McKee

THE huge turn out at the funeral of Pamela McKee (nee O’Neill) which took place at St. Patrick’s Church of Ireland in Broughshane last week, was ample evidence of the love and esteem in which she was held.

Pamela, who was brought up in the Harryville area and attended Ballykeel Primary School before progressing to Ballymena Academy was 49.

She had fought a brave battle against Cancer for some time.

A truly caring personality, Pamela was a vital member of the Library service in Ballymena for many years.

Many will recall her wonderful story-telling sessions when she held children enthralled with her superb delivery of tales old and new.

Blessed with a warm and sincere smile, Pamela McKee brought a light into the lives of all who knew her .Pamela had a wonderful quality of making people feel both valued and at ease in her presence and her passing will leave a sad gap in the lives of all who were acquainted with her.

After leaving Ballymena Academy, Pamela studied at Jordanstown where she graduated with a BA hons. in English and Philososphy. her post-graduate studies took her to the University of Aberystweth and Queens, Belfast where she acquired her diploma in library studies and management studies.

Her first post took her to Ballymena Technical College and then onwards to the Library Service where she was held in the highest esteem as an innovator and a work colleague of the hghest order.

Speaking at her funeral last week, Dean Bond of St. Patrick’s, Broughshane, said that Pamela had been an exemplar of true Christianity.

“Warm, caring and open, Pamela McKee was always on the side of the underdog. She believed that everyone should have a fair chance and committed herself throughout her career to putting that ethic into practice.

“As a Rainbow Guide leader in the Church she was much loved by all, especially the children. Indeed our Nativity Play was dedicated to her memory.”

Married to Alastair the pair were well matched with a tremendous sense of fun and laughter. The couple lived at Ballylig Road, Broughshane with children Peter and Sophie.

Broughshane Councillor Beth Clyde, who worked with Pamela in the Library Service, said her passing had saddended everyone.However, she said that the sadness would be tempered by fond memories of Pamela’s laughter and zest for life.
