Only spike in Hallowe’en fireworks injuries wasin WHSCT
The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS) statistics relating to injuries caused by fireworks during the 2011 Hallowe’en period (17 October to 14 November) show that: “In 2011, 28 per cent (7) of all persons injured reported to emergency care departments in the Belfast HSC Trust, 28 per cent (7) in the Southern HSC Trust and 28 per cent (7) in the Western HSC Trust.”
The Western Trust was the only place an increase was reported.

Hide Ad“Since 2010, the number of injuries from fireworks decreased in all HSC Trusts with the exception of the Western HSC Trust which increased from 5 to 7 in 2011.
“The largest percentage decrease was reported by the Northern HSC Trust where the number of injuries from fireworks decreased by two thirds (66.7 per cent), from 9 in 2010 to 3 in 2011.”
Whilst the amount of injuries reported here was up over the year it was still less than half the 15 reported in 2007.
