Paint attack on Bellaghy Orange hall

An Orange Hall in Bellaghy was attacked by vandals on the Twelfth morning, leaving the building covered in green and yellow paint.

Mid Ulster MLA Sandra Overend said she was disgusted by the attack on the hall, which it is believed to have been targeted for the fourth consecutive year.

“The large number of members of Bellaghy’s Orange Lodges were disheartened when they arrived at the Orange Hall this morning to find the front of their hall, yard and wall strewn with different shades of green and yellow paint,” she said.

“I share their disappointment and am truly disgusted that there are some people who still refuse to allow the Orange to celebrate their culture in a peaceful fashion, as they do in Bellaghy.

The UUP assembly member added: “I know that the local Brethren work hard to keep the hall in good order and to enhance the attractiveness of the village, however they will take this act, not only as a blow to their workmanship, but the Protestant people of the village and surrounding area will feel that this is very much a target against our cultures and beliefs.”
