All island cruelty register

SDLP Mid Ulster MLA Patsy McGlone has recommitted to campaigning for an all island Animal Cruelty register and has raised the issue with Ministers across these islands.

“I spoke at the Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs Committee this week, urging progress on an animal cruelty register, which the SDLP have been raising consistently at the Assembly and local councils. At my request, the Committee agreed to seek further information and I look forward to receiving that soon,” he said.

“In spite of legislation to punish offenders, there is no central register of those convicted of animal cruelty offences. Having one would help prevent further animals being placed in the care of convicted animal abusers.”

Mr McGlone said those responsible for “heinous crimes against helpless animals” should face the full force of the law.
