Heartbreaking tributes paid to former goalkeeper after ‘sudden passing’ at home

Countless tributes have been paid online to former GAA goalkeeper and barber Johnny Curran.

The 33-year-old passed away in the early hours of Sunday after suddenly taking ill at home.

News of the Coalisland man’s passing was met with widespread disbelief and shock as tributes flooded in from across the country.

A former goalkeeper for both Coalisland Na Fianna and Tyrone GAA, club mates, friends and family have been fondly remembering the dad-of-two, who won All-Ireland titles with Tyrone at Minor and Senior level.

On Facebook his partner Clodagh Daly posted a heartbreaking message.

She wrote: “My life, My beautiful, My everything. Please come back to me J.”

A post on Dungannon Swifts FC said: “Dungannon Swifts FC are devastated at the news that our former player Johnny Curran has passed away.

“Johnny was always on hand if we ever needed him and he was always more than happy to help.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his partner Clodagh, his two boys and to his wider family circle. Rest in Peace Johnny”.

Meanwhile a post on Coalisland Ath Fc (Coalisland Athletic Football Club) added: “The entire Coalisland Ath Fc are shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden passing of our former goalkeeper Jonny Curran.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with clodagh, his boys and his entire family circle. May he rest in peace”.

And a post on Tyrone GAA Facebook page says: “Tyrone GAA extend their Sincere Sympathy to the Curran Family on the Sudden and tragic death of Johhny Curran R.I.P.

“Tyrone Gaels everywhere have been saddened to hear the tragic news of the sudden and untimely death of Johnny Curran from Coalisland.

“The GAA Community have been rocked by terrible news to emerge early this morning.

“Johnny had represented his Club and County with pride and distinction winning An All Ireland Minor Medal with his beloved County In 2004, when Tyrone defeated Kerry.

“Johnny also went on to represent Tyrone at Senior Level and was part of the successful Panel who won the Sam Maguire in 2008.

“Johnny also wore the number 1 Jersey for his Club Coalisland Fianna helping them win a County U.21 Championship medal in 2004 and one of his proudest moments was to take up the last line of defence when Coalisland captured the O’Neill Cup in 2010.”

Mr Curran is survived by his partner Clodagh, their two young boys Neasan and Darsai, and the wider family circle.
