Plans for youth centre

ONE of the town centre's vacant properties could be about to get a new lease of life.

Lurgan Elim Church have lodged an application with planners to convert the old job centre at 10a High Street into a youth centre.

Should the proposal get the go-ahead the church group plan to put the derelict building to good use.

Youth Pastor Rick Preston, who is based at Lurgan Elim Church on the Banbridge Road, told the ‘MAIL’: “We’ve always been interested in getting a base somewhere further into the town centre for young people.

“It would be for our young people and used as an outreach centre as well. It would probably be used mostly in the afternoons and evenings.”

He added: “It’s a good size. It would be great to have something like a coffee bar as you come in, then pool tables, then a meeting room at the back. Of course these are just dreams at the minute.

“We’re at the planning stage. If we get permission we’d hope to move in pretty quickly. There’s not too much work needs done.”
