Carntogher councillor Sean McPeake made the proposal during October’s monthly council meeting.

The Sinn Fein representative said that he had been contacted in the days after a meeting of the development committee by a member of the Community Rescue Service who had read about the meeting in a newspaper.

“I was contacted by a representative of the Community Rescue Service who I would be friendly with and had met with during my time as Chair of this Council,” said Cllr McPeake.

“They saw the coverage of the NWMRT’s presentation in a newspaper and it got them thinking that they could be part of the discussion around the location of a base for services such as this in the Mid Ulster area.

“They would like to be included in the discussion. Whilst they are based in Portglenone they do cover part of Mid Ulster and they would like to be part of that discussion with the Council.

“If they have not written in formally to do so they will be doing so shortly and I would like to support the idea that they will be part of the discussion for a possible base along with the North West Mountain Rescue Team.”

Councillor Ian Milne seconded this proposal to include the Community Rescue Service in discussions with Council and the NWMRT about finding a suitable base for these services within the district.
