Preparation for annual garden fete in Desertmartin


Next preparation meeting for the 29th Garden Fete and Vintage Rally will be held in the parish hall next Wednesday.

Starting at 8pm, it is hoped there will be a good turnout of people offering to help in this annual fundraising event.

There will be work parties at the Rectory on Mondays August 4 and 11, commencing 7pm. Help will also be needed on the morning of Friday 15th and 11th to erect the marquee on the rear lawn.

Meanwhile, should you require, or know someone, who needs entry forms, these can be obtained from Mr Jack McGuckin. Also, will those who obtain sponsorship The Garden Fete and Vintage Rally itself will take place on Saturday, August 16 commencing 12 noon.

The rally will begin with a fancy dress parade while there will be the usual displays, demonstrations, stalls, sideshows as well as musical entertainment and refreshments.

Institution service

The Service of Institution of the Rev Michael (Mike) P. Dornan as the Rector of the Grouped Parishes of Desertmartin and Termoneeny, will take place in Saint Comgall’s Parish Church on August 26 at 8pm.

This will be a very significant evening in the life of these parishes as it

is almost 30 years since an Institution Service was last held. Rev Dornan is currently Curate of Hillsborough, County Down, Diocese of Down and Dromore. It is hoped that many will attend to welcome the Rev Dornan, his wife Gill and family.
