Protect yourself against thieves urges McCrea

LOCAL DUP MLA and Policing Board member Ian McCrea has hit out at those who are targeting homes to burgle in Mid Ulster.

Mr McCrea was responding to the news of a spate of burglaries in the area, including a number of thefts from businesses in Cookstown as reported by the MAIL.

He said: “It has been brought to my attention of late that there has been a number of burglaries and attempted burglaries in the Mid Ulster area.

“Even more disturbing is the fact that the criminals involved are watching the activities of people and then targeting their homes when they are out especially those who are attending church services.

“It is extremely important that people take extra care and make sure that their front and back doors along with their windows are all securely locked and that you inform a neighbour when you are out so they can keep an eye on your home.”

He continued: “The people perpetrating these shameful acts have no morals targeting homes at any time but it is especially deplorable coming up to Christmas and I would advise people not to display Christmas presents where potential thieves can view them. It is also a fact that jewellery is a big target for burglars so it is important that expensive items are insured.

“I want to encourage everyone to act on this advice before it is too late and if you notice any suspicious activity or have any information to please come forward to the police and help them with their investigations to help remove these thugs from our streets.”

Anyone with information on any of these incidents is urged to contact PSNI on 08456008000 or speak anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800555111.
