Protestant participation workshops

A NUMBER of workshops are taking place across the North West this month to highlight the findings of a recent research project looking at what support is needed to encourage Protestant participation and inclusion across the North West.

The NW PEACE III Partnership commissioned the ‘Ways Forward to Support Protestant Participation and Inclusion in the North West’ research under its Phase I Action Plan Strategic Priority 4 - Assisting Protestant Participation.

It aims to encourage the participation of the Protestant community by tackling marginalisation, sectarianism and racism. William Lamrock, member of the North West PEACE III Partnership and Manager of the Gateway to Protestant Participation project stated: “This report shows a growth of confidence within the Protestant community and is a very positive step change, as a more engaged and confident Protestant community is beneficial to our society in the North West.

“This confidence needs to be built upon in order to create a shared and diverse community in the North West.”

The workshops will highlight the findings of the research, in relation to community diversity and infrastructure, as well as the current initiatives that are underway which are helping to connect and develop groups, including the PEACE III initiative.

They will take place on the following dates. Omagh - Wed 20th July at 7.30pm in Killycurragh Community Hall Strabane - Thur 20th July at 7.30pm in the Sollus Centre, Bready.

A number of recommendations have been made, particularly around how the research could be carried forward, how leadership can be developed, how to build the capacity of the Protestant community and build relationships with public bodies.
