£3.5k handedover by poshhotel chief

The operator of the soon-to-open boutique, Bishop’s Gate Hotel, in Londonderry city centre has handed over £3,500 to cancer charity Macmillan Cancer Support in his capacity as President of the Northern Ireland Hotels Federation (NIHF).

Ciaran O’Neill will operate the 31-bed hotel in the historic Northern Counties building in Bishop Street when it opens this Winter.

The swanky new hotel is currently recruiting staff.

Donating the £3,500 collected at the NIHF annual ball to Macmillan, he said: “We were thrilled that fundraising undertaken at Hospitality Exchange on Wednesday, October 14, generated £3,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“Over 300 representatives from the hospitality sector were in attendance at the gala ball and we appreciate their generosity. Funding makes a tangible difference to individuals coping with the impact of cancer on their lives.”

According to the proprietors, the Bishop’s Gate Hotel, built in 1899, blends “stunning Edwardian architecture, stylish appointments and luxurious facilities which will be sensitively restored to pay homage to the rich heritage of the building, whilst exceeding the contemporary needs and desires of its guests.

“In its reincarnation no detail will be left to chance; this iconic landmark will be an intimate urban oasis featuring 31 luxurious guestrooms, including 3 suites, a residents lounge, fitness area, restaurant, champagne and cocktail bar and a 100 person capacity ballroom.

“At the heart of the hotel, ‘The Wig and Gown Champagne Bar and Grill’ will offer casual, high end dining all day and provide the perfect place to relax and unwind with a cocktail or glass of Champagne, complemented by live entertainment on select evenings.”
