DLP MLA for Mid Ulster, Patsy McGlone, has urged the Southern Education and Library Board (SELB) to see sense over a “ludicrous” decision on school travel arrangements.

The SELB have recently informed a Ballyronan parent that her daughter must travel three miles to the Loup to catch a bus to Magherafelt rather than take the two minute walk to an Ulsterbus stop in the village.

Mr McGlone described it as a ridiculous situation and SELB must see sense and review their position immediately.

Local SDLP Councillor Christine McFlynn commented, “This is a hard-working parent who commutes to Belfast on a daily basis. Her daughter has just started her A-Level studies and has been placed in a completely unnecessarily stressful situation by SELB’s incomprehensible decision. We have contacted the SELB directly to highlight the problem with their decision.”

No one from the Board has offered a response.
