Reports of drive-by gang attacks in Cookstown

Reports of a gang roaming the streets attacking people as they walk alone in Cookstown have emerged over the weekend.

Allegations of a number of late night attacks by men travelling in a multiple cars and “hunting in packs” were heard across social media.

All spoke of the seemingly random and vicious nature of the assaults and claimed that large numbers of “thugs” drove up in cars before setting upon a lone person on foot.

One Twitter user reported: “6 boys jumped me on Friday night / Saturday morning. 6 boys on 1 and I’m still walking. Not much of a group of lads.”

Police have been contacted about the spate of assaults but have yet to comment if they are connected to one gang or lone incidents.
