Road re-opens after gas explosion

THE Aghagaskin Road, Magherafelt, re-opened on Tuesday evening after being closed for most of the day following a gas explosion.

No one was injured in the blast which involved an acetylene cylinder at a residential garage.

Fire appliances from Magherafeft managed to extinguish the cylinder and remain at the scene for several hours.

A 200 metre exclusion zone was also in place during the afternoon as fire crews monitored the situation.

Motorists were warned by the police to avoid the area.
