Roads Service confirm Knockan Road re-surfacing

THE Roads Service decision to re-surface the Knockan Rd from its junction with Main Street Broughshane to its junction with the Quarrytown Road, has been welcomed by local MLA councillor Paul Frew.

The work will commence on Thursday, August 19 on what councillor Frew describes as "the worst road in the borough."

He said: "This is great news for the people of the Braid who use this road day in and day out and especially for the people of Broughshane and the Housing Developments in the surrounding area, who have suffered on this road for months.

"Without exaggeration this is the worst road in our Borough at this time for surface and I am glad Roads Service are dealing with it now.

"I had been given assurances by Roads Service that this road would be resurfaced this year and its great to know that it will be completed before the end of summer.

He added: "This road wasn't great to start of with but it took a battering by the harsh winter conditions this year which made it very dangerous not only to drive on but to walk on as well, you basically had to drive on the wrong side of the road when able, to prevent damage to your car, which of course is a danger in itself.

"It beggars belief that this important road could have fallen into such a state."

Councillor Frew also stated that he has great sympathy for Roads Service who are trying to deal with a reduced budget and a more demanding work load because of the harsh winter conditions and the worsening conditions of the roads.
