Ross pushes Minister on Monkstown schemes

EAST Antrim DUP MLA Alastair Ross has pushed Social Development Minister Alex Attwood on delays to maintenance schemes planned for the Monkstown area.

Mr Ross said: “Whilst we all recognise that public finances are tighter now than at any other stage in the past decade, it is unacceptable that schemes planned for replacement kitchens and windows have been repeatedly postponed.

“Some people have been told not to expect any schemes for up to three years and others who expected progress this year have had their hopes dashed time after time.

“I am pleased that the Minister has accepted my invitation to visit Monkstown at the end of November to not only see some of the good work that is carried out in the community centre, but to also talk to those waiting for essential maintenance to their homes.”

Mr Ross said it was imperative that the Minister moves to maintain existing housing stock instead of simply focusing on new builds.

“A balanced approach is necessary,” said Mr Ross.
