SDLP confirms council election candidates

The SDLP has confirmed that it will be fielding just two candidates in Newtownabbey in the upcoming local government election.

Cllr Noreen McClelland will be seeking to retain her seat in the Glengormley Urban District Electoral Area (previously Antrim Line).

“I am looking forward to the forthcoming elections for the new council, bringing together Newtownabbey and Antrim. This is a unique opportunity for both councils to work together for the betterment of the residents,” she commented.

“As with any new body we will experience both challenge and opportunity. Both areas have a wealth of businesses, excellent schools, hospital facilities, shopping opportunities and leisure facilities. The new council will work as a team to ensure we have a smooth transition for all residents across both boroughs.”

Dominic Mullaghan, a 32-year-old University of Ulster graduate, will be hoping to win a seat for the party in the Macedon DEA.

A graduate of the University Of Ulster, he previously worked as a postman in Newtownabbey and is now working in Ballyclare.

A former pupil of Hazelwood College, Dominic supports integrated education as a way to progress a truly shared future.

The SDLP isn’t fielding candidates in the Threemilewater and Ballyclare DEAs.
