A SINN Fein councillor has had concerns for “some considerable time” around the relationship between Magherafelt District Council and Pulse, who are contracted to run the Greenvale Leisure Centre in the town.
Councillor Peter Bateson, who is bringing a motion before the council tonight calling on the private operators to recognise trade union organisation.
Speaking ahead of the meeting he told the MAIL: “Sinn Féin simply will not accept the refusal of Pulse to allow for the active establishment of trade union activities within our council owned leisure centre facilities.
“I will be seeking council to immediately establish a more formal discussion mechanism between council and Pulse.
“Magherafelt District council area is extremely fortunate to have such a modern and fantastic facility locally. We need to ensure that its operation is carried out in a way which best serves the constituents who own the premises - i.e. the district`s ratepayers.”
Pulse have said they will reply to the council motion later.
