Shed pounds for a good cause

A LOCAL charity is encouraging Larne residents to take part in an upcoming sponsored diet challenge for St Valentine’s Day 2012.

Praxis Care – which operates Laurel Lodge Nursing Home in the town and provides services for people affected by mental ill health, learning disability and dementia – will be running the campaign from Monday, January 9 to Thursday, February 23.

The challenge will focus on three different elements required to help people lose weight, including good nutrition, exercise and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).

CBT describes a number of therapies that all have a similar approach to solving problems, and works by changing people’s attitudes and their behaviour.

Anyone interested must sign up to take part in the challenge and needs to raise a minimum of £160 sponsorship money, including a £10 registration fee.

Geraldine Andrews, fundraising officer for Praxis Care said: “The St Valentine’s Day Diet Challenge is a fun and healthy way to support the work of Praxis Care. Once you sign up a pack will be sent out to you which will include a diet sheet, self help tips and a sponsorship form.

“There will be six weekly sessions provided by Herbalife and cognitive behavioural therapists in venues throughout Northern Ireland.”
