Sports hub proposal at football grounds

Proposals to turn Carrick Rangers Football Club’s home grounds into a ‘sporting hub’ are being examined.

The suggestion was raised at a meeting of the Taylors Avenue sub-committee in January, with club representative David Hilditch referring to the model of Ballymena Showgrounds and the funding opportunities available for such a facility.

Mr Hilditch indicated that the proposed Taylors Avenue facility could not only be used for sporting clubs, but for educational purposes by the whole community.

Representatives of the club were invited to make a presentation on the matter at a future meeting of the sub-committee.

The club, which will celebrate its 75th anniversary this year, recently received funding from the council and the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure to provide temporary changing facilities at the venue.
