Stitch and Restyle Workshop invitation

COLERAINE Borough Council is offering adults with a creative streak the chance to update old jackets or coats at an evening workshop in Cloonavin.

Funded by the Department of the Environment’s Rethink Waste fund and lead by creative talent and craft tutor, Lorna Gough, the workshop is being offered free of charge on Tuesday, March 27 from 7-9pm.

Fiona Watters, Council’s Recycling Officer, explained: “The idea behind the Stitch and Restyle workshop is to have fun, be creative and learn a few basic skills.

“We all have a favourite jacket or coat that we can’t bear to part with – and why should we when all it needs is a make-over to see it through another season or more? Giving our clothes a face-lift is an easy, cheaper way to make them last longer, and who wouldn’t want to do that?

“I would also encourage everyone to buy from local charity shops which are a haven of guilt-free shopping. You have the added bonus of knowing you are helping a worthy cause – good reasons to visit your local shop to see what’s on offer!”

Owen Lyttle from the Rethink Waste campaign added: “We are proud to support these workshops, especially if you consider that if everyone in the UK bought one piece of charity shop clothing each year, it would save gallons of water, tonnes of chemical dyes and help countless local charities.

“The Rethink Waste campaign aims to help raise awareness, encourage best practice and achieve behavioural change at home, at work, at school and in the community in order to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill.
