MAGHERAFELT Sinn Féin Councillor Sean Mc Peake has welcomed Magherafelt Council`s decision to provide resources and support the creation of Youth Council within the district.

Proposing that Council liaises with local schools at the beginning of next school`s term to develop the initiative Councillor Mc Peake said, “It is important that young people are provided with a platform and are given a voice to articulate their views on a wide range of issues that affect their lives.

“Far too often young people either have not the route or do not know the mechanism`s how to raise issues that are important to them. Already within a number of schools there are schools councils in existence. This should be built upon, adapted and mainstreamed into the activities of Magherafelt District Council.

“This will greatly assist in empowering young people with the tools to make their voices heard and affect change on the ground on matters that are dear to them.”
