“YOU take the high road, and I’ll take the low road” - this is the chorus from the ever popular Scottish traditional song ‘Loch Lomond’ which will be featured in the Sperrin Choir’s annual spring performance at the Burnavon, Cookstown.
‘That’s All Folk!’ is the title and theme of this season’s concert which takes place on Friday (May 10) at 8pm
The Sperrin Choir’s musical director, Sam Cuddy, has picked a range of popular traditional tunes from the UK, Ireland and the USA for this season’s programme.
Sam said he wanted to choose folk songs that are well known and evocative, such as ‘Will Ye No’ Come Back Again’ and ‘Whiskey in the Jar’, but also to inject an element of fun from the USA with the Carl Perkins’ classic ‘Daddy Sang Bass.’
The Sperrin Choir is a cross-community outfit which has been in existence since 1975.
Its members meet every Thursday evening at 8pm in St Swithin’s Church Hall in Magherafelt for rehearsals. The choir has been learning and practising this collection of folk and traditional songs since early January.
The Sperrin Choir has enjoyed the challenge of this collection of songs and looks forward to welcoming you to the Burnavon Theatre on Friday night at 8pm. To book a place at this annual spring concert, telephone the Burnavon box office at 028 8676 9949, or book online at www.burnavononline.com.
