Two females aged 37 and 39 and a male aged 37 arrested following the seizure of £125,000 worth of cannabis plants, two firearms and a quantity of fireworks in the Maghera area on Thursday have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

DUP MLA ian McCrea welcomed the seizure, but said the discovery of firearms was alarming.

“I congratulate the police on this very successful seizure on the Ballynahone Road which has removed at least £125,000 worth of cannabis of our streets and resulted in 3 arrests.

“What’s even more alarming is the fact that 2 firearms were also recovered from the raid which can only cement the fact that those involved have very little regard for anyone and that they were prepared to protect their criminal enterprise.

“Drugs are an ever increasing problem and a major concern for parents. Local information is vital in the fight against drugs and it is important that any information is given to the Police to tackle this scourge on our society.”
