Commenting on the state of the road, Counrillo McPeake pointed to yet another road traffic accident at the site, and has repeated his calls for road realignment here.

"A few weeks ago we seen another accident on this road, which is the second in the past year. This is an arterial route which sees a lot of heavy traffic, particularly considering the nearby industry hub at the Creagh, and the proximity to the A6 between Belfast and Derry.

"It is just a matter of time before we see a fatality at this point, and we are calling on SDLP Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon to step in and release the funding for this vital piece of work."

His assembly colleague further remarked: "This scheme of work is included in the LTSM programme for 2020/22 and has been highlighted as a priority by our local section manager. I’ve called on the Infrastructure Minister to deliver on this project, as committed to, and ensure that this road is upgraded so that it meets the necessary standard."
