Sinn Fein councillor Gavin Bell told the Mail: “I’d like to take this opportunity to commend the surface improvements made by Roads Service to the B18, from Ballymaguigan to Ballyronan.

“This stretch of road has been long overdue resurfacing and thankfully it has been brought up to a very good standard and the feedback from local people is positive, but the good work shouldn’t stop there.

“The B18 route then connects to the B160, from Ballyronan to Coagh, via Ballylifford and Ballinderry, over recent times many stretches of this road is in urgent need of resurfacing, repair and maintenance.

“Given this road takes a huge volume of traffic on a daily basis and a considerable number of that being Heavy Goods Vehicles,” he added, “the road in many places has become substandard and hazardous with subsiding verges and very uneven surfaces.”

He went on to say that former Minister Chris Hazzard acknowledged “the years of underspend in the west”, and that with that recognition, he was “very heartened to see Roads Service engineers addressing their minister’s concerns”.

“I look forward to liaising with them to help make plans to tackle these issues,” he said.
