Tribute to wife of former Mayor

TRIBUTES have been paid to the wife of a former Mayor of Lisburn who has sadly passed away.

Emily Morrison supported her husband Mr George Morrison who served the Council faithfully. The couple who were married in 1947 in Carryduff Presbyterian Church, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on March 25 and were delighted to receive a card from the Queen marking their special milestone.

The Right Worshipful the Mayor, Alderman William Leathem has extended his condolences to former Mayor of (the then) Lisburn Borough Council, Mr George Morrison, on the loss of his wife. He said: “On behalf of the Council I extend my sincere sympathies to George at this very sad time. George and his wife, Emily, were married for over 65 years and were devoted to each other.

“George served the Council faithfully for many years and remains a very popular individual in Lisburn City Council. He was Mayor from 1996 to 1998. George and Emily celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in March earlier this year, having married in 1947. I also extend my deepest sympathies to George and Emily’s children, Isobel and Tommy, and the wider family circle at this difficult time.”
