Ardboe songstress Shauna McStravock wowed the judges on TG4 singing competition Glór Tíre on Wednesday night with her rendition of Lee Greenwood’s ‘Dixie Road.’
The 26-year-old who is already a familiar face on the local country music scene, took to the stage as one of nine contestants bidding to be crowed this year’s Glór Tíre winner.
Each contestant has a mentor on the show and Shauna’s mentor is popular Scottish country singer Lisa McHugh.
One of the judges commented on a similarity between the two young singers and told Shauna she had ‘a great stage presence’.
Speaking following her performance Shauna thanked everyone for their messages of support: “I want to say a massive thank you to each and everyone of you for your kind support so far. It really means so much to me.”
She added: “I really want to stay in the competition but I need your votes. Please text: GLOR9 to 60999 (NI) or to 53307 (ROI) I really appreciate all your support. Thank you!”
Speaking to the TIMES before the show began, Lisa McHugh said she was excited to work with Shauna: “She’s a lovely young girl and she is so talented. I’ve known her for a few years now, she has been doing a few concerts and things that I’ve been on and I’ve always kept a look out to see where she is and what she is bringing out so I thought Shauna would be a perfect contestant for this year and she is working so hard, I am so excited for her,” Lisa said.
Lines are open now, so give Shauna your vote and keep her in the competition!
