Boxing legend Barry McGuigan thrilled primary schools pupils from across Cookstown, during a visit on Thursday morning.
The former boxing champion was in town to deliver a health programme to pupils from Phoenix Integrated PS, Cookstown PS and Holy Trinity PS.
With childhood obesity at an all-time high it has been the Barry McGuigan Boxing Academy’s priority to educate our younger generation on healthy eating and activity using fun and interactive equipment and games designed for 6 to 10 year olds.
In the last five years the NHS have recorded that 33% of 11 year olds are overweight or obese and among 4 and 5 year olds the figure is 22%.

This is why The BMBA have been working towards their mission to help improve the lifestyles of the families of the East London area and it is with great excitement that we have completed our first steps in sharing our vision with local schools.
Barry McGuigan said: “The Happy Hearts Primary School Health program has been specifically designed to integrate all aspects of healthy living into a fun, interactive and educational program.
“Educating primary aged school children on the practical guidelines needed to lead a healthier lifestyle is our main objective and we aim to inspire, enlighten and unite everyone in working towards a more active, healthy and happier lifestyle.”
