Watch: Draperstown pupils collect 38 bags of rubbish in spring clean

Pupils and staff from St. Colm’s High School and St. Mary’s Primary School, Draperstown, took part in the TIDY Northern Ireland/ Belfast Telegraph’s ‘Big Spring Clean’.

The 75 Year Nine pupils along with their 60 partners in Primary 6 and 7 carried out a clean-up their local beauty area - The Plantain in association with Mid-Ulster District Council.

The pupils have, in their five previous year’s involvement with ‘The Big Spring Clean’, made a significant improvement to The Plantain and hope to continue to improve their local area through this very effective collaboration.

Thanks to John Murtagh, Environmental Projects Officer, for his help.

Pupils collected 38 bags of litter in total enjoying the time spent in the sun.

Meanwhile, John Murtagh, Environmental Projects Officer with Mid-Ulster Council presented certificates and plaques to the year 8 pupils who took part in a recycling competition.

He praised the Green Efforts of St. Colm’s pupils and declared how proud he was of his long association with the eco-committee.

He hoped the school would continue to flourish as an eco-school of best practice and that pupils would continue to get involved in environmental projects.
