Woman jailed for assaulting police

A DRUNK woman who had to be restrained by five police officers after she refused to leave a Magherafelt pub, was jailed for five months at the local Magistrates Court.

Rosaleen McAuley (46), formerly of Magherafelt, but now with no fixed address, admitted assaulting two officers, resisting police and disorderly behaviour at Queen Street on March 26.

Bail was fixed for appeal purposes and McAuley was released pending the appeal.

The court heard McAuley refused to leave Dorman’s Bar when requested and police were called to assist door staff.

A PPS lawyer said defendant, who was heavily intoxicated, again refused to leave when asked by police.

She said defendant then kicked out and struck an police officer on the leg, and later kicked out again striking another officer in the groin.

The lawyer said McAuley continued to resist outside the premises and a cell van had to be called. She said traffic on Queen Street had to be stopped while the arrest was being made.
