WOMEN from many different churches in Dungannon attended the service for Women’s World Day of Prayer which was held in St. Elizabeth’s Church, Moygashel.
Dr Leslie Carroll was the speaker, and taking part were were: Winnie McCullough, Suzette Meeke, Ann Spence, Frances Compton, Kathleen McCusker, Mena Campbell, Sally Gervin, Mairead McClure, Mary Boyle, Ann Hanna, Heather McClean, Elma Valentine, Sarah Herron, Shirley Simpson, Marie McArdle, Susan McQueen, Gertie Greenaway, Susan Thompson and Gillian McConaghie, with Rev. Rosie Diffen as leader.
Compiled from women from France, the theme for the service was ‘I was a stranger and you welcomed me.’
To reflect the diversity of backgrounds of those taking part in the preparation of the service, six women wearing scarves of different colours entered at the beginning of the event while another, dressed in grey, represented the ‘stranger’ who had been welcomed,
Soloist Shiobhan O’Neill sang several hymns, and a little group from Coalisland led the singing. Margaret Forbes played the organ.
The evening finished with a cup of tea, which was served in St. Elizabeth’s Church Hall.
