Police at Magherafelt are appealing for information about an assault that allegedly took place at a football competition.

Sergeant Sam Young said that on Saturday January 25, a youth was assaulted during a match at Meadowbank arena.

“It is alleged that the youth, who was playing for one of the teams, became involved in a dispute with an opponent. At that point, another opposing player ran over and punched him once in the face. Upon medical examination it was noted that he had a broken eye socket.”

The match was between teams from Omagh and Cookstown, though nearly 40 teams were competing on the night and police believe some of those team members saw what happened.
