Youths rewarded with trip to the Jungle

BOYS and girls from various estates in Cookstown were rewarded with an action packed day out to The Jungle, Moneymore on at the weekend.

The activity day was a reward for their hard work and commitment to the PEACE III Youth Summer Programme for nine to 16-year-olds and it was funded by the EU’s Programme for Peace and Reconciliation (PEACE III) which is managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.

Over the eight-week programme they attended martial arts classes in Cookstown Mugendo/Kickboxing Club on Union Street, where they were introduced to the basic concepts of Martial Arts.

Jo Hagan, the Martial Arts instructor for the programme felt that the youth programme was a great success and commended all the young people who attended.

He said, “It was great to see all the boys and girls from all different backgrounds come together in a fun and interactive project.”

He went on to explain, “Martial arts is a great medium to deliver a PEACE Programme to young people as reinforces principles of respect, tolerance, self-discipline and self-achievement.”

The nine to 16-year-olds programme was part of a larger Community Youth Summer Programme delivered by Cookstown District Council that also included programmes for two to four-year-olds and five to eight-year-olds.
